The Manchester practice that publishes its reasoning

No other name in Manchester’s top ten has a principal who writes signed, long-form pieces on what patients are actually frightened of: how much tooth a full-arch crown makeover abroad removes, how instruments are decontaminated under the HTM 01-05 standard, what dose a cone-beam scan delivers. Dr Nilesh Bhatt, a Manchester dental school graduate who practised in Knightsbridge, opened Gartside Street Dental Lounge in Spinningfields after he and his partners exited their earlier Manchester and City of London practices.

Treatments and services

The route through the practice is published as three stages. Restore deals with what hurts or is failing: fillings, crowns, root canal treatment, extractions, gum treatment. Enhance is elective, with clear aligners planned on an iTero scan, porcelain veneers, composite bonding, whitening and gum contouring. Rebuild covers missing teeth: single implants, implant-supported bridges, full-arch All-on-4 and All-on-6, mini implants where bone is thin, implant-retained dentures. Same-day emergency appointments sit alongside all three.

The clinicians

Nilesh Bhatt leads implant care. Muataz Osman is a periodontology and implant surgeon with a Manchester Master’s awarded with distinction and postgraduate certificates from the Royal College of Surgeons. Abdul Rahman Aly is a GDC-registered specialist in endodontics, a clinical lecturer at the University of Liverpool and a member of the British Endodontic Society; his research doctorate was in root canal disinfection and he treats under an operating microscope. The CQC record adds visiting specialists, a periodontist, an orthodontist and a sedationist; four hygienist-therapists carry the preventive side.

Nervous patients and second opinions

A first appointment runs to about ninety minutes and opens with a conversation before any examination, then digital radiographs and a written plan. Noise-cancelling headphones, blankets and sedation are offered to anxious patients. Two groups other clinics find awkward are treated here as ordinary: people who have not seen a dentist in a decade, and people back from cosmetic work done overseas.
